Concrete Work

Concrete is unforgiving — if the base isn't right, it cracks. I do proper sub-grade prep, rebar or mesh where it belongs, correct thickness, and clean expansion joints so it lasts. Driveways, walkways, slabs, and steps.

"I highly recommend working with Tim and his crew. They exceeded my expectations in work quality, professionalism, and value. They were also amazing with the cleanup and leaving my property cleaner than it was before. They poured a new concrete patio and step in my backyard as well as repaired some siding on my house. I am beyond happy with the results."

Why most San Antonio concrete cracks early

Our soil is high-plasticity clay — it expands when wet, contracts when dry, and that movement breaks slabs poured directly on dirt. A driveway that lasts 30 years here has 4–6" of compacted base rock under it, #4 rebar on chairs (not wire mesh laying flat), correct slab thickness for the load, and saw-cut control joints at 8–10 ft intervals so cracks land where you can't see them. Skip any of those steps and the concrete lets you know within 2 years.

Slab thickness by use

Walkways: 4" with #3 rebar on 18" centers. Residential driveways and patios: 4" with #3 or #4 rebar on 16" centers. Driveways for trucks/RVs: 5–6" with #4 on 12" centers. Equipment pads and shop slabs: 6" minimum, often 8" with engineered rebar layout. I'll spec it for what you're actually putting on it.

Finishes available

Broom finish (most common, slip-resistant). Smooth troweled (covered patios, garages). Stamped (looks like stone, brick, or wood plank). Exposed aggregate (decorative, durable). Integrally colored or acid-stained for color. Each finish has different long-term maintenance — happy to talk through what fits your project.

Tear-out and replacement

Cracked, sunken, or heaved concrete usually can't be repaired well. We saw-cut clean lines, jackhammer out the bad section, haul it off, re-prep the base, and pour to match the existing finish and color as closely as possible. New concrete will always be slightly different in tone — it weathers in over a season.

Frequently asked questions

How much does concrete cost in San Antonio?
Broom-finish flatwork runs roughly $9–$14 per square foot installed. Stamped/colored $14–$22. Heavy-duty driveways with thicker slab and more rebar $12–$18. Includes excavation, base, rebar, and finish.
How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?
Foot traffic 24 hours. Cars 7 days. Heavy trucks/RVs 28 days for full cure strength. We mark off the area until it's safe.
Will my concrete crack?
All concrete cracks. Done right, the cracks land in the saw-cut control joints where you don't see them. Done wrong, they crack across the slab.
Can you tear out and replace my old driveway?
Yes. Saw-cut, demo, haul-off, re-prep base, and pour. Usually 3–5 working days from demo to finished slab.
Do you handle decorative finishes?
Stamped patterns, integral color, acid stain, exposed aggregate — all available. Bring me an inspiration photo and I'll match it.
